About Lamentations 3:22–23
Lamentations mourns the destruction of Jerusalem in 587 BC. In the middle of the book’s darkest chapter the poet turns: the LORD’s loving kindnesses never fail, his mercies are new every morning, great is your faithfulness. The hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” takes its title from these lines. Their weight comes from where they stand: hope spoken inside grief, not after it.
