About Psalm 121:1–2
Psalm 121 is one of the Songs of Ascents (Psalms 120–134), sung by pilgrims on the way up to Jerusalem. The traveler looks up at the hills, the road ahead and whatever danger it holds, and asks where help will come from. The answer: from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. The rest of the psalm keeps returning to one word, “keep”: he will not slumber, he will keep your going out and your coming in. It is often prayed before a journey.
