About Joshua 1:9
God says these words to Joshua after the death of Moses, as Joshua is about to lead Israel across the Jordan into Canaan. The command to be strong and courageous comes three times in the chapter (verses 6, 7 and 9). The reason given is not Joshua’s ability but God’s presence: “the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” The courage rests on company. It suits a new job, a move, a hard diagnosis: any threshold where someone has to go first.
