Gratitude is easy to admire and hard to keep.
We know we should be thankful. We mean to be. And then a stressful week rolls in, the mental list tilts toward what’s wrong, and the good things blur into background.
Scripture treats gratitude less like a mood and more like a practice — something you do, on purpose, whether or not you feel it in the moment. And the writers of the Bible weren’t naïve. Many of these thankful passages were written by people in prison, in exile, or in grief. Their gratitude wasn’t the absence of hardship. It was a choice made in spite of it.

Give thanks in all circumstances
1. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Note the wording — in all circumstances, not for all of them. You’re not asked to be thankful that hard things happen, but to keep finding something to thank God for even while they do.
2. Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

3. Colossians 3:15-17
“And be thankful… And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
