• Psalm 91 Psalm 91 is a psalm of refuge: it promises that whoever shelters in God is kept through plague, terror by night and the arrow that flies by day. It is 16 verses and takes about two minutes to read aloud.
• Psalm 23 Psalm 23 is the shepherd psalm: six verses in which God provides, leads, walks with the speaker through the darkest valley, and finally sets a table for them. It takes under a minute to read aloud.
• Psalm 1 Psalm 1 is the doorway to the Psalter: six verses setting two ways of living side by side — one rooted like a tree by water, the other blown off like chaff.
• Psalm 51 Psalm 51 is the great psalm of repentance, written after David was confronted over Bathsheba. Nineteen verses asking not for excuse but for a clean heart.
• Psalm 107 Psalm 107 tells four rescue stories — the lost, the imprisoned, the sick and the storm-tossed — each following the same pattern of trouble, cry and deliverance.
• Psalm 119 Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible: 176 verses arranged as 22 stanzas of eight, one for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet, all circling a single subject.
• Genesis 1 Genesis 1 is the first creation account: eight acts of creation arranged over six days, each introduced by "God said" and closed by "there was evening and there was morning". It is 31 verses.
• Genesis 2 Genesis 2 retells creation close up: a garden, a river, a man formed from dust, and the first thing in the account called "not good" — being alone.
• Exodus 20 Exodus 20 is the giving of the Ten Commandments at Sinai — twenty-six verses that open not with a rule but with a reminder of rescue.
• Joshua 1 Joshua 1 is a commissioning: Moses has died, Joshua is told to cross the river, and the command "be strong and courageous" is repeated four times in eighteen verses.
• Isaiah 41 Isaiah 41 is a courtroom scene in which God summons the nations to argue their case, and turns to reassure Israel with the line most people know it for: "Don't be afraid, for I am with you." It is 29 verses.
• Isaiah 43 Isaiah 43 opens with "I have called you by your name. You are mine", and moves through water and fire imagery to a promise of something new.
• Proverbs 3 Proverbs 3 is a father's instruction built around trust: thirty-five verses on relying on God rather than on your own understanding.
• Matthew 6 Matthew 6 is the middle of the Sermon on the Mount: it contains the Lord's Prayer, the instruction to give and pray in secret, and the passage on not worrying about tomorrow.
